How to Apply as an Online Teacher at 51Talk

Apply Now and Start your Teach Learn Earn Journey with 51Talk.

Applying as an online teacher at 51Talk is not hard but also not easy.

Preparation is the key

If you are applying to give online teaching a try, at least do some preparation. Be well informed and set your expectations right.

Many teachers who try out are only looking for monetary gain. Of course, that is the reason why you must apply for a job but consider that money is not everything.

So what should you expect? Teaching is not a piece of cake. You will have to undergo to a lot of training, adjustment for yourself and schedules and even you will have to sacrifice your favorite evening series. But it is also rewarding. It is worth it.

Prepare your mind for action
Prepare your mind for these adjustments. Prepare your self to do multi-tasking.

Teaching is an intellectual job so your mind should be relaxed. Teaching also entails patient. If you are the type that glares and shouts at kids, then I guess online teaching will be a good training ground to tame that character.

Prepare your place of work
Physical preparation is a necessity. Before applying decide to be successful in acquiring an online job no matter how many times you have to try. Apply to as many online teaching platforms as you can. With that in mind, you don't hold back from preparing your place of work.

Be mindful that you will be doing a video class which means your video background matters. 51Talk provides a design for a tarpaulin background. But if you're applying to another online platform a plain background will do.  Always set your background on the wall. This avoids other members of the family from passing behind while you are conducting your class or to keep home clatters off camera.

Technical Preparation
Make sure you know your desktop or laptop. Know basic computer troubleshooting and internet error troubleshooting. Including basic setup for your headset.

Have several browsers installed on your computer.  Know basic browser navigation and settings.

Rehearse your typing skills. Make sure you memorized your keyboard enough to be able to type even without looking at your letter keys. There are free typing softwares online. Take time to practice.

As for internet requirement, you must have at least 2mbps. Don't try applying if you don't. You'll just be wasting your time.

Evaluate your Skills
Check if your English skills are intact or else do a little review. Head over to https://www.englishcentral.com and have your pronunciation analyzed. An important fact, 51Talk students use the British pronunciation.

Application Process

Qualified? If yes, don’t wait for another day. Join this growing community of home-based English teachers. Start your Teach, Learn, Earn journey.

Again, if you apply through any links from this page, that means I must help you get started. And it would be my pleasure to do that. Also, I will be receiving an incentive from 51Talk for referring you.
51Talk has so simplified its application process. But again it does not mean that you take it lightly. If you have done the above-stated preparation well then it should be easy. Other than that expect it to be hard.

Submit your application

Fill-up the application form. Click here.

Phone interview
Wait for a phone interview so keep your line open. Usually a member of the HR may call you a day after submitting your application. If you pass,

Technical Evaluation
Before they endorse you for training your internet and computer will have to be evaluated if they meet the standard.

Training Series

You will then go through a series of training. Everything is accomplished online via SKYPE

Teaching Demonstration
Be aware that after those training there will be a teaching demo so don't take your training lightly. You will be informed by your evaluator if your pass or failed. In case they think you did not do well but have a great chance to improve they may ask you to re-apply after a month. Don't let that happen. At the onset be prepared.

Onboarding

Your next endorsement will be for onboarding. This is the last training before you will be able to plot schedules. But don't relax because there is one more teaching demonstration after your onboarding training.

When you are through all these and have passed. Give yourself a pat and keep climbing the ladder of success in 51Talk. Start plotting your schedules and start earning. Don't forget to thank God that you're hired
